LBA ANNUAL MEETING

The LBA held its annual meeting on January 11, 2005 at the Lanam Club. President Robert J. Gilbert opened the meeting by noting that the meeting marked the 100 th anniversary, to the day, of the founding of the Lawrence Bar Association. He then reviewed the activities of the LBA over the last year including efforts to address the issue of automobile insurance fraud through education, seminars and public support of investigations and prosecution.

Chairwoman Wendy Olinsky gave the report of the LBA Nominating Committee, and submitted the following nominations for 2005 officer and Executive Committee positions, each of which were approved unanimously by the membership:

First LBA “Brown Bag Lunch”

The LBA sponsored its first “Brown Bag Lunch” for 2005 on March 10. Acting First Justice, Judge Thomas M. Brennan, was the guest speaker. The subject matter focused on the practical impact of the new rules of the criminal procedure on the district court. The LBA thanks Atty. James Krasnoo for coordinating the event. The LBA Executive Committee has under consideration topics and speakers for future Brown Bay Lunches. They will keep you informed.

Chairperson Sheila Casey is coordinating the event. Please try to reserve the morning and luncheon period for your participation. The event will include a speakers program, scholarship awards, LBA awards, and a brief presentation at the luncheon by First Justice Thomas M. Brennan. The LBA will also honor Bridget Shaheen, Executive Director of the Lazarus House by presenting her with the Liberty Bell Award. We will also be honoring Atty. Richard Bowen as the recipient of the Annual Leadership Award.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!!!!

The Housing Court is looking for attorneys to volunteer their time for its Lawyer of the Day Program, which is run in the Salem, Lynn and Lawrence sessions of the Housing Court. If you are interested in volunteering your services for those in need, please contact Patricio Rossi of Neighborhood Legal Services at 781-599-7730, x. 225, or at prossi@nlsma.org

The Probate Court is also seeking volunteer attorneys to participate in its Lawyer for the Day Program at the Lawrence Probate Court. The lawyer is asked to be available to income illegible persons. For details, call Atty. Richard Consoli at 978-682-9643.

LBA Night at the Spinners

Last year's event was a great success. Chairperson Jeffrey Renton is looking into reserving a baseball game in early August. As we did last year, we are hoping to offer participants a package, which will include admittance to the baseball game and a BBQ buffet dinner at the Gator Pit located at the ballpark.
